Explain the wall’s role in the space
Describe the viewing positions, the surrounding interior and the effect you want the wall to create. Provide dimensions and identify doors, openings, services or other features that influence the arrangement. Inspiration images should be explained in terms of what you like about them, such as depth or rhythm, rather than treated as an instruction to reproduce another project without considering its different context.
Develop the form and material concept
Discuss how the pattern changes across the wall and where it begins, ends or meets adjacent surfaces. Compare material concepts and visual samples without assuming that the same geometry will be fabricated in the same way in every material. The design and appointed fabrication team need to coordinate the practical requirements before execution. Those responsibilities should be stated clearly in the project brief.
Define the design handover
Agree which layouts, visualisations, profiles or schedules are included in the design appointment. State who reviews the execution detailing and any specialist requirements. Keep the approved design revision and material concept together. This gives the later fabricator a clearer starting point for assessing production, support and installation needs, while avoiding an assumption that a design-only service includes making or fitting the wall.
